This performance of Sunday Bloody Sunday in Dublin from 1987 breaks off into a brief interview clip at 4:16, where Bono says, “Maybe the song Sunday Bloody Sunday is a failure…” “We’ve alienated the republicans who wanted to use it as a battle cry…” “We’ve alienated the unionists who only see it as a slap in their face…”
Sorry, I know it’s a few days late and many thoughts short, but I was looking for that above clip for some reason after reading Bono’s latest NY Times column …
Bono’s New York Times column from June 18: In Ireland, Tuesday’s Grace
Sidenote to above video:
It’s amazing that Bono’s neck has never exploded.

A young classical organist in Boston once published a polemic against other organists who did not sound, when they were performing, like they had what he called “bulging neck veins.” I would say Bono is not vulnerable to this particular critique.
I love Bono’s neck! Very manly. It’s one of my favourite body parts of him, along with: eyes, nose, chin, mouth, (ahem) bum, thighs, arms, hands.
I think I got him pretty much covered there. Lol
I think it was Sinead O’Connor that described Bono’s singing style once like “he’s singing like it’s going to get him out of prison.” I think that’s the neck vein bulging Bono being described. Debbi I can’t argue with any of your approved body parts.
Great quote!
