June 4, 2011 was a very very very nice day

Some great videos of U2 in Seattle on June 4:

All I Want Is You (more videos on Chrisedge’s YouTube channel here)

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (more videos on Dray9111′s YouTube channel here)

Seattle was the 10th show I’ve seen on the 360 tour, but first since 2009. All I Want Is You and Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me were two of the highlights of the show for me. (Pretty much any song they played that they weren’t playing in 2009 the last time I saw them…those were my highlights).

The setlist for the show is here.

The BEST part of the show for me was seeing/hearing Zooropa live. Zooropa forgives a lot of sins. That is written on my arm right now. Hearing that just made everyone and everything disappear. (Of course, Zooropa is a song I can’t find great video of from Seattle—Watch this one instead.)

The fact that U2 could hide under a giant pinecone screen and play Zooropa and still make me feel like I had my eyes closed under my covers with my headphones on is really some kind of crazy shit.

I have some setlist gripes, and I even wrote them out, but then I deleted them. Or Zooropa did. You can’t go to a stadium show to see U2 and complain that they are playing stadium rock songs. (Can you?) I believe that by the next time I see them, post-Glastonbury, in Montreal, they might have a change or two in the set. If not, maybe I’ll complain then. (But probably not, if the show feels as good as Seattle did.)

When Bono introed the band he mentioned that you may think of Larry as the tough guy, but that he’s really quite thoughtful. Adam, you may think of as a ladies man, but he’s also a gentleman. And Edge, you may think of as a zen master genius, but really he’s one of Lady Gaga’s backup dancers. There was a lot of good energy radiating off that stage. And you never know when this will all come around again….

More of my videos are here.

remix this

U2 played night 1 of 3 in Mexico City last night. The setlist is here. The next shows in Mexico City are May 14th and 15th.

Last night they had three songs in the show with club, dance type remix action. (Although, are Magnificent and Even Better Than The Real Thing technically even remixes or just “different” versions of those songs?) Either way, each “remix” song offers a great opportunity for the dancing, which is a strength for the band’s singer.

If I could dance as AWESOMELY as Bono, I’d play all remixes, too. Particularly if said remixes allowed me to dance around underneath a trippy screen with images of Desmond Tutu’s talking head floating around. Screw the back catalog guys. More remixes!

U2 playing a new remixed version of Magnificent in Mexico City last night. (Why?)

The Even Better Than The Real Thing remix started the show.

The Crazy Tonight remix from Mexico City 1 includes an awesome Pop-tease from 4:20 on…

Geez, not this one again (wink)

U2 opening with Even Better Than The Real Thing two nights in a row. (Night 2 in La Plata setlist).

U2 La Plata 2011-04-02 Even Better Than The Real Thing – U2gigs.com

This new version of Even Better Than The Real Thing reminds me a little of the vibe of the Crazy Tonight remix.  Maybe just a little. It is really driven by the rhythm section. (Sidenote: please observe Adam at 4:23-ish…) Is this what the maybe not ever coming out U2 “club” album would sound like? You know, the “comeback” album? The one where the rhythm section stands in the foreground in all of the promo shots…

U2 Played One Tree Hill in Santiago, Chile

.. and there was dancing involved (huh?)

The singer joining U2 on stage is Francisca Valenzuela. Look how B (at 1:55 in) points out the teleprompter to her. Look! Karaoke style One Tree Hill, babe!! Odd. Would be cool if (just) the band played this one again.

(Thanks to @U2gigs for capturing it in quality video.) The rest of the U2 setlist from Santiago on March 25 can be found here. Muse opened for U2 (Muse videos and setlist from Santiago here).

If you ask…

If you ask Bono and Edge if Bono has any flaws, this is the look they give you:

Way to go with the hard-hitting questions Argentina! (Via atu2, see below for a video clip from a recent puffy little interview that aired on TV in Argentina—Telenoche de Canal 13 de Argentina—to promo the upcoming South American leg of the U2360 tour.)

Also in that interview (9:54), Bono claims that he rides the subway in NYC. (Really?) But only in the winter when his nose is hidden by a scarf. I hope he still wears his shades though. Good disguise, dude.

ps: It’s possible I only posted this because the screen cap makes Bono look like he has a flower in his hair.

UPDATE: Part 2 of the interview above is now available online and can be viewed on YouTube here. (AMUSING.)

What’s Going On

What’s Going on yo …

Part 1 and Part 2 of an interview Bono and Edge did to promote their upcoming South American tour dates is below. In part 2, the interviewer tries to get them to offer up opinions on the “celebs playing concerts for Gaddafi (family)” drama. Squirming involved.

If nothing else, at least watch 2:14-2:25 below:

Below is a U2.com video from Johannesburg featuring a backstage meeting with the band and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

So yeah, what else is going on? Scatter O’ Light is pretty quiet I know. I’m here I swear! I am just not all that interested in trying to slice and dice the Spider-Man stuff. What else is there on the U2 front? A new album soon? HA…er, I mean hmmm. Can you imagine (even if an album was physically ready) how the release of a new U2 album would be “received” amidst the Spidey media drama overload? Spider-Man EP? Are Bono and Edge on it? Do we care? What else… North American tour? Gaah. I think I need a U2 kickstart before then somehow. So … If Bono sprouts a Tom Selleck mustache* overnight or something, please track me down IMMEDIATELY and let me know.

This Is Cool. [U2 Cape Town]

I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For + Stand By Me featuring Yvonne Chaka Chaka. U2 – Cape Town, South Africa 2011-02-18. That Stand By Me is very cool. Also, Bono’s amazing animal introductions are included in this video. It’s a win win win win people.

The audio of this show streamed live online. Wasn’t that nice? Yes.
Listen to an mp3 of the show here.

And, this is a nice shot of this guy/those guys.
