I guess the president of Mexico liked the show.

Also: photo of Bono meeting with president Calderon on May 12.

And: would you eat that?

U2 Played One Tree Hill in Santiago, Chile

.. and there was dancing involved (huh?)

The singer joining U2 on stage is Francisca Valenzuela. Look how B (at 1:55 in) points out the teleprompter to her. Look! Karaoke style One Tree Hill, babe!! Odd. Would be cool if (just) the band played this one again.

(Thanks to @U2gigs for capturing it in quality video.) The rest of the U2 setlist from Santiago on March 25 can be found here. Muse opened for U2 (Muse videos and setlist from Santiago here).

Who knows the way to Moncton?

Game of telephone:

U2 and Arcade Fire just announced a concert. Together. In Moncton.”
“Holy shit.”
“I know.”
MONTAUK?
“Moncton.”
“U2 and Arcade Fire are playing a concert in MONTAUK?!”
“No. In MONC-ton.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Where the hell is Moncton?”
“Exactly.”

No offense Moncton! I’ve heard you’re awesome, Moncton. Canada’s most courteous city! Good for you getting this concert. I bet it will be awesome. Though kinda snakey on U2′s part to sell Pittsburgh as the “last show” of the North American tour and then add on this extra date way after the fact. But I’m happy for people getting a show in a place that’s never had a U2 show before. That’s you Moncton!

Can I ride my bike to Moncton? From here? Hmmm… It would take a while.

I’ve been trying to figure out which exact U2 shows and how many overall U2 shows to go to this summer. This Moncton show is tempting. It has Arcade Fire. They are the awesome. And they do not yet have wrinkles. At all. Not yet. I read that this is true! But the show doesn’t fit into my summer plans too well. I think the wisest choice is to just go to the shows where the other people at the show are the ones you most want to hang out with. Or go to the show where Adam promises to take his shirt off. Or one where Bono takes his pants glasses off. Or the one where Elevation, Vertigo, City Of Blinding Lights, Beautiful Day and I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For get dropped from the setlist in favor of side one of Zooropa. (Okay, that’s a post for another day.) Hmmm. These are first world problems. Indeed.

Kind of getting excited for the shows this spring/summer now…

Heh [U2 in Russia]

When asked about U2’s constant campaigning on various issues and the public’s sometimes limited appetite for the group’s causes, Bono said, “I understand the people who respond with, ‘Shut up.’”

“I’m really good at rescuing cats from trees,” bassist Adam Clayton noted at the time.

The group is set to discuss their anti-poverty campaign Red with the president, although frontman Bono joked about canceling the meeting after hearing that Medvedev was a Deep Purple fan.

“What kind of music does he like? They say he is a Beatle-maniac … Is that true?” Bono asked at a news conference late Sunday, national newspapers reported.

“That’s it. I’m gone,” Bono said, pretending to stand up and go when told by journalists that the president was a big Deep Purple fan. “I’m canceling the meeting.”

At the same time, the rest of the group started humming the riff to “Smoke on the Water,” the veteran rock group’s most famous song, Kommersant reported.

“No, we prefer The Beatles,” Bono said. “I think even Deep Purple prefers The Beatles.”

Above quotes are from this Moscow Times article: U2′s Bono Jokes About Medvedev’s Taste In Music

A couple of videos of band in Moscow:

U2 plays a concert in Moscow this week on August 25.

Also: The Edge broke his twitter silence with this photo:

Oh and Jay-Z is opening for U2 in Australia and New Zealand. I wouldn’t complain about that. And even if I did I think he could handle it. Heh.

U2 are coming down under [whether this kangaroo likes it or not]

Alright, seriously, tell me there isn’t something a little creepy about the way that kangaroo is looking at the Bono? Koala bear seems cool, but damn, kangaroo, what the fuck.

… that’s from the U2.com video announcing the Australia/New Zealand tour for November and December .

Not related: If you haven’t yet, I recommend listening to Bono’s interview with Ryan Tubridy of 2fm, Irish radio [mp3 can be found here]. Noting earthshattering, just Bono being Bono, pretty sleepily.

For your love (7:10)

U2 – North Star – live in Helsinki, August 20 (song starts 7:10 in, after I Still Haven’t Found … ends)

This song’s getting better already. And it feels like it has a lot more places it could go. (Though I doubt I’ll ever get past the “space cowboy” line with a straight face.)

So now is the throwdown: “Oh, really? Let’s see you play some new songs. How about three?” Sure, people can say, “”Oh, I didn’t think that was any good.” But if I was a U2 fan, that’s what I would want. I would want to watch a new song develop. We may discover it’s not what we thought it was, and it may never see the light of day. But we’ve got a lot more songs to play.

—Bono in Rolling Stone interview with David Fricke

Here’s the only previous performance of that song: U2 – North Star – Turin
